Rear drive

Only the rear axle drives. A hybrid adds its motor between the engine and transmission; it does not have a separate electric rear axle.

Rear axle driven

How this works

Controls illustrate mechanisms, not the complete driving procedure or every vehicle interlock. Rear-lock demo requires 4L and loose ground. Toyota calls the unlocked full-time road mode H4F; center lock couples the shafts. No front locker is fitted. SDM changes articulation, not differential locking.

A-TRAC, Auto LSD, Torsen bias, Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control braking are not simulated. Wheel states do not predict actual traction, braking or safe speed. Both engines drive through the same mechanical transmission and driveshafts. Follow Toyota’s owner manual (OM35C28U pp415–423: stop wheels before rear locking; maximum 5 mph with rear lock). About these comparisons

Each illustration and link uses the build behind its number. Comparisons cover the model years and bodies in our guides. Different rows can use different trims and equipment. Missing values aren’t treated as zero; reported prices and inferred ratings aren’t ranked.

  • Lowest listed trim price in each guide, before destination, options, taxes and fees. Cab and body styles can differ.
  • Highest published output found in each guide. This compares available power, not acceleration or the trim you selected.
  • Best published combined rating found in each guide, including regular hybrids. Plug-in ratings and inferred matches are excluded.
