Rating basis & limits

Without a Class IV receiver, the genuine step-bumper ball mount is limited to 3,500 lb trailer/350 lb . Nissan recommends 10–15% tongue load; this planning tool uses 10%, so an actual heavier tongue can reach or receiver limits sooner. Above 3,500 lb requires trailer brakes. Nissan recommends tandem above 3,000 lb and a above 5,000 lb. Maxima vary by cab, bed, and drive. September 2026 brochure corrects the May press kit’s conflicting PRO-4X tow rows to 6,680 lb and 6,270 lb long bed. Curb weights are base figures; options, hitch equipment and real vehicle mass can reduce the available load. Weigh the complete rig and check door, axle and receiver labels. No braking-distance or traction prediction is made.
