Independent rear motor helps

The rear axle gets power from its own electric motor, with no inter-axle driveshaft. E-Four and plug-in AWD respond to conditions; this animation does not claim a fixed front/rear torque split or promise traction.

How this works

The RX350 uses mechanical AWD; the hybrids have separate rear electric drive. The 500h has a six-speed automatic and 80-kW rear eAxle. The 350h and 450h+ use hybrid e-CVTs. Motor peaks cannot be added to the complete-system horsepower.

Low range and axle lockers are not fitted. EV mode is shown only on the plug-in 450h+ and assumes adequate charge and suitable conditions. Rear-steer arrows on 500h illustrate direction; the schematic uses Lexus’ published maximum 4° for visibility.

Illustrative wheel states. Slippery tires can still spin with AWD. No traction, stopping-distance or efficiency prediction.

About these comparisons

Each illustration and link uses the build behind its number. Comparisons cover the model years and bodies in our guides. Different rows can use different trims and equipment. Missing values aren’t treated as zero; reported prices and inferred ratings aren’t ranked.

  • Lowest listed trim price in each guide, before destination, options, taxes and fees. Cab and body styles can differ.
  • Highest published output found in each guide. This compares available power, not acceleration or the trim you selected.
  • Best published combined rating found in each guide, including regular hybrids. Plug-in ratings and inferred matches are excluded.
