Illustrated glossary · Traction vs stability control
Traction control vs stability control: what changes?
Traction control limits driven-wheel spin during acceleration. Electronic stability control compares the car’s motion with the driver’s intended direction and can brake individual wheels to help correct a skid. Many vehicles combine both in one system.

Compare a spinning drive wheel with a car starting to slide out of a turn.
Control goal
Situation
Traction control can reduce drive output or brake a slipping wheel during acceleration. The highlighted brake is one possible action. Real systems often combine both functions. Neither can exceed the tires’ available grip.
A comparison of control goals, not a skid simulation. Highlighted wheels show possible intervention, not a universal braking sequence or a guaranteed recovery.
A spinning wheel asks for less drive
can reduce drive output or brake a spinning wheel. With an , braking a slipping wheel can also help its partner receive useful . This is different from mechanically locking the .
Stability control also watches direction
Steering angle, wheel speeds and vehicle motion help the controller recognize a mismatch between the intended path and actual motion. Selective braking and reduced drive output can help oppose that mismatch.
The tires still set the limit
These controls work with the grip available at the tires. They cannot make a slippery surface grip like dry pavement. Their presence does not establish that a car has or an axle .

2026 Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler catalog documents brake traction control with its axle descriptions. This is a related traction example; the tool isolates differential behavior and does not simulate stability-control recovery.
Our Wrangler data has the gas Wrangler's engines, transmissions, 4x4 systems, axles, wheels, tires, bumpers, tops and some of its packages. It doesn't have every package, the 392 V8 or the 4xe plug-in hybrid yet, so something missing from this page may still be offered.
