360° camera vs backup camera: what can you see?
A backup camera shows behind the car. A 360° camera system combines several cameras into a simulated overhead view, helping you judge the space beside and ahead of the car too.

Obstacle position
Switch to 360° surround without moving the obstacle. The comparison uses the same parking scene.
A simplified parking scene. Shading shows the area represented by each view, not a measured field of view or a guarantee that an object will be visible.
There is no camera above the roof
Cameras at the front, rear and sides supply overlapping images. Software reshapes and joins them around an image of the car. Nissan calls its version Around View Monitor; Toyota uses , and Chevrolet uses HD Surround Vision. Extra views differ by vehicle.
A camera, a beep and a brake do different jobs
A camera gives you an image. warn about nearby objects. Parking auto braking can intervene in some situations. A car having one does not establish that it has the others. Check each function separately.
The joined image has limits
Dirt, lighting, camera blind areas and the joins between images can hide or distort objects. The overhead view is especially useful for positioning near curbs and parking lines, but you still need to look around the vehicle.
